What is the warranty duration for appliances?

The legal warranty is 2 years for new appliances and minimum 12 months for refurbished. During this period, any defect is presumed to have existed at delivery. Some manufacturers additionally offer a 3 to 5-year commercial warranty, but this does not replace the legal warranty and the seller remains your primary contact.

Since January 2021, a repairability index (score out of 10) is mandatory for certain appliances: washing machines, smartphones, laptops, televisions, lawnmowers. It evaluates repair ease based on 5 criteria: documentation, disassembly, spare parts availability, parts pricing, and product-specific criteria. A high score indicates the device is easily repairable.

Can I request an immediate refund?

Not directly. The law first provides for repair or replacement. You can only request a refund (contract resolution) if: repair and replacement are impossible; the seller hasn't acted within 30 days; repair or replacement causes major inconvenience. However, if the product breaks down a second time (persistent defect after repair), you can demand a refund.
